Left Off the List: IGN Readers Top 99

As long as there have been groups of geeks, there have been lists of the greatest X of all time. And as long as there have been best-of lists, there have been assholes like us to complain about what got left off the list. So here we have that deeply reputable bunch of experts, the readers of IGN, happy to celebrate the new 99 cent KFC Snacker sandwich by telling us the 99 greatest games of all time. Eat the chicken. EAT THE CHICKEN!.

I will take it as a given that the IGN crowd isn't likely to, say, remember that Nethack is a good game, or to mention Zork. Or Gauntlet. Or Pitfall. Hell, the fact that we got both Legend of Zelda AND Super Mario Brothers 3 on there is probably more than we had any right to hope for. So, you know, the fact that the only Ninja Gaiden we get was for XBox and the fact that there are no Mega Man games, OK - these things happen. Similarly, the bias towards the new is normal enough - so of course Chaos Theory is the best Splinter Cell and Diablo 2 is the best Diablo. And of course series like Castlevania are going to mysteriously forget everything before Symphony of the Night.

But no Warcraft II or III? (Just Worlds of Warcraft). No Ultimas at all, including Ultima Online? No Civilization games? No Total Annihilation or Wing Commander? No Baldur's Gate? We get both KOTOR games but no Baldur's Gate? No PC Doom games - just the XBox version of Doom 3? DOOM FUCKING 3? No Wolfenstein either, needless to say.

And, of course, the greatest game ever is... Resident Evil IV? The greatest game ever only came out this year? What?

But at least the list has chicken! EAT THE FUCKING CHICKEN!
