The Daily Duh: Wednesday 5/11/05

Terra Nova goes 1 for 2 today, first asking a stupid question and getting surprisingly cogent answers. Then they have this little bit on humor in MMOGs, which is spot-on, and reminds me of dozens of truly hilarious things that absolutely nobody cares about anymore. So, in that spirit, All your base are belong to us.

Someone linked me to this with the apparent belief that it was interesting. It mya well be, but when I visit mmorpg.com I get this story instead. So that link may well be interesting. Oh, shit, wait, it's gaming news. Never mind!

Another attempt at a Bible game. Cue pompous and self-absorbed commentary about the inevitability of the Christian right trying to use gaming to advance their message. Ask rhetorical question about whether this will mark a substantial change in the nature of gaming. Utterly forget the whole topic by the time the game comes out and flops. ONWARD!

Revolution to hit in mid-2006. Which is probably when the XBox 360 will actually arrive with enough units for anyone but Bill Gates's kids to have one. What is the Revolution? Will it be Revolutionary? You know, say what you want about Nintendo, but actually, this one is interesting. When the guys who invented modern console gaming say they're doing something new, you raise a damn eyebrow. Sure, the DS is being slow to get the games out, but it is new. Touching, blowing into a mic, two screens, this is new. And it will eventually advance beyond glorified flash games. Go pick up some of the launch titles for the NES and see how impressed you are with the things that don't have "Mario" in the name. I'll be over here playing Wario Ware: Touched! You go play your stealth action ard game. We'll see who has an innovative play experience first.
